Just a phone call

That would have been nice.

My 60th birthday was spectacular – as close to perfection as possible. But a phone call would have been nice.

My day started with a phone call from my favorite 7 year old (the son of a co-worker) singing Happy Birthday and telling me he loves me. Sigh!

At the office, my cubicle was decorated to the hilt. To get into it, crepe paper and balloons had to be moved aside. My bosses and co-workers took me to lunch at a very nice restaurant, made me wear a silly hat and sang as I blew out candles on the cake. I received expensive presents from my bosses and wonderful presents and cards from everyone – then another cake for the whole office (about 50 people) about 2:30. No phone call yet.

Left work at 3 and was greeted by 4 friends at home who took me out to dinner and then home for more cake and presents. There was a wonderful card from my little sister, Dr. Anonymouse with a very generous gift card. Have I mentioned lately how much I love my little sister?

Saturday was another day of celebrating with friends and off to another dinner. Still, no call.

Sunday, Dr. Anonymouse called to see if I was still alive from all the celebrating and to fill me in on her news. Couldn’t talk too long because my contractor was getting ready to leave and I needed to go over some things with him. But no other call.

It’s Tuesday. I’m 60 + 4days now. Life is settling back to normal. My friends, by blogging friends and my little sister made my birthday fabulous.

My mother and older sister forgot.

Just a phone call. That would have been nice.

Aw, Anti. I'm sorry. Easier said than done, but think about how many awesome friends you have - friends who took you out to dinner, bought black balloons, bought cakes, read your blog, wrote comments and happy birthdays on your blog. Plus, Little Sister. So many people adore you. Your mom and sister are missing out big time.

Now, you never answered the question about the deal with the devil. You did, didn't you? I knew it! No one looks that good at 60! Can I get in on some of this demonic action?

I'm sorry, AW, :-(

Lots and lots of people adore you, but it still doesn't take the sting out, I know... I'm sending cyber hugs, only wish it could be more.

Eek -- I forgot too! Happy Birthday, however belatedly!

My sister never forgets my birthday, though she sometimes forgets to call or write. But I am far likelier to forget to call or write to her on her birthday. (Blush) I envy you that first call you got, though -- that's a real winner.

And I wouldn't mind a tip or too myself...

I'm estranged from my father, so I know exactly how you're feeling. I'm sorry. You're so great, though, to focus on the positive aspects of your life, and it sounds like you have a million of them! Friends are grand!

That sucks but revel in the fact so many others cared and did things to make the day special.

I agree with the others. Focus on those who love and support you and don't let the others get you down. And it sounds like there are MANY who love and support you!

I know this stings. But, but, you have many around you who love you. It's not about being related by blood. It's about being related by heart and soul.

You had a great 60th birthday, to me. Sounds like you were enveloped by love. Hold that tightly.

Ouch.

But everyone here has said it all. Cheers! And take care.

I just restrained myself from typing an expletive here on your lovely blog. My mother is always being hurt through expecting her sisters to act like the family that they are, and like she acts toward them. I've told her to stop having expectations of some folks.

Telling her this doesn't work. She continues to be hurt. I suppose she's not as good as I am at banishing some people from my very consciousness. So all I can say is: hope the sting fades, and the memories of the great parts last a long time!

...And like Robin, I want to know your secret to not looking anything near your age!

Oh, that just plain stinks. So sorry your family missed out on the opportunity to help you celebrate. Their loss! It sounds like you were surrounded by friends and adorers, both present and in the blogosphere.

Happy, happy birthday to you!

I'm so sorry about that. But you know, there are many others who care about you who more than make up for it. You take care of yourself!

I'm sorry. Mom is in her 80's right? So maybe memory has started to fade? :-/

Don't worry. Sounds like you had a fab birthday without those two calls. Your younger sister remembered. It is evident that your co-workers, friends, and blogging/writer friends love you, and who could ask for more? ;-)
