I enrolled in a class - a basic class in writing fiction . I was really waffling on which class to take when an e-mail arrived offering a $25 discount if I signed up before the end of the month. I decided that was a sign and immediately enrolled.
The class actually started last Thursday, but they allowed enrollment until tomorrow and since I purchased the textbook about a month ago, I'm ready to go. Each topic lasts 2 weeks, so I'll be a little behind but believe it will be possible to catch up quickly.
I like non-fiction and writing about life in general, but really don't have a good grasp on how to write fiction. I'm not even sure it's what I want to do and hope this class will help determine if fiction is right for me or if I should stick to non-fiction. Either way, it should help me become a better and more organized writer.
As the class progresses, I'll keep you updated. Wish me luck!

Good luck, AW!! :*) Let us know how the class goes!
Good luck - it is something I have always toyed with doing!
Demon and Miladysa,
Thanks. I'll keep you posted as I go along.
Wishing you luck. Sounds fun. And please share any writing insights you stumble across in class. :-)
Have fun! I did an online "fundamentals of fiction writing" course a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it! Good luck!
Tree,
Thanks and come by anytime.
Precie,
Was it a WOW workshop or some other one?
YES! It was "Advanced fundamentals of fiction writing," and my instructor was Barbara Rogan, who I "know" from the Compuserve Books & Writers forum.
The lesson plan and readings were standard, but the group critiques and instructor feedback were really helpful. And I found the structure and progression of the course very helpful to organizing my own ideas about writing.
I want to hear about how this went for you, too. Right now I don't have the time or the money, but what I really want to do is sit with someone who has a shrewd eye and watch them picking over my manuscript, inch by inch. I'd pay for that -- if I only had the time...
Precie,
Mine's the Fundamentals of Fiction Writing - no advanced yet. It may be basic, but hopefully it'll help me get organized and start thinking about the whole work.
Mary,
I'll provide regular updates. You should get the textbook - "Fiction Writer's Workshop" by Josip Novakovich. It's a good basic book with lots of exercises. Then you could follow along with the class even though you're not in it. I bought it through Amazon.
yay! i love taking classes and learning. i think it'll be fun! def keep us updated.
Good luck, AW. That's such a positive thing to do.
Cyn,
I'm excited. I love learning.
Liane,
Thanks. It feels good.
Good luck and tell us if it is any good!
Good luck!! Hope to see a few posts about it!! hint, hint
:-)
Good luck! I admire your efforts. Please share any nuggets you get along the way!
Ooh, I misspoke...It wasn't an "advanced" class...it was "accelerated." I think it was the same class as yours but in half the time. I had the same textbook...Fiction Writer's Workshop. Very helpful!
