Online writing classes

I've been researching some online writing classes and am ready to sign up for a good basic class. Although I pretend to write brilliantly and know the craft well, in truth I'm just a bumbling novice with scattered thoughts and methods. I need help.

So, I'm asking anyone out there who's taken an online class, or knows someone who has, to make some recommendations or give me some suggestions.

HELP!

I'm taking a class right now through Writer U. They seem to have a few good ones. http://www.writeruniv.com/

I'll be watching this thread for recommendations. Sounds like a great idea.

Many genre organizations (MWA for mystery writers, RWA for romance writers, CBWI--or something like that--for children's books) have online chapters and/or many online courses. That might be a good place to look. If not, they would probably have some recommendations. Good luck!

It is interesting that you and all of your commenters, obviously writers, have expressed an interest in taking a writing class. There are a lot of writers who scorn writing classes; their craft, they seem to imply, ought to be recognized, and if it isn't, it's not their fault. There may be a grain of truth in their reasoning, but why bank on it? I'll check out that link too!

I'm not sure of any official classes. I've taken some through community programs and universities. Also places like Society of Children's Writers & Illustrators has day workshops for writers, I'm not sure what comparable groups would be for adult writing though. Hey, I just checked - here's one for Writer's Digest: http://www.writersonlineworkshops.com/

I don't know if you are in a critique group, but I would get one set up if you can. Sharing work with other writers is a fast track to learning and moving your work forward. I can't tell you how valuable it is.

CL,
We'll watch together. :)

Booklady,
Thanks for the information. I'll check out their sites to see what they offer.

Casdok,
Thanks!

Mary,
In my humble opinion, only the arrogant have nothing to learn - although a good dose of humility might help them. I freely admit my inexperience and lack of knowledge and welcome any and all assistance that will make me a better writer.

Writerkat,
WOW is one of the sites I'm looking as well as some of those listed above and Gotham Writers Workshop which also has been recommended. It appears there's much to choose from, but which one is right for me is the hard decision.

Wayne (from Nutty Steamers blog) didn't like the Gotham Workshop. Said it was too basic. Then Moonrat came on and said (I think) that after you get past the first course it gets better....
Anyway, just an fyi
